DESCRIPTION:About Family Empowerment Day\nEach year\, Families Together in New York State\, a non-profit\, family-run organization that strives to establish a unified voice for children and youth with social\, emotional\, behavioral and cross-systems challenges\, hosts a Family Empowerment Day (formerly Legislative Awareness Day) in Albany. Family members visit legislators to voice their concerns and share their stories\, and legislators join families for the luncheon\, awards and speakers during the afternoon. The annual event offers a forum to continue the ongoing and vital discussions regarding children’s behavioral health and the need to support families and young people. The goal of the day is to bring family members and advocates from across New York State together to meet with legislators and state leaders and have their voices\, concerns and needs heard. SUMMARY:Speak Up\, Speak Out: A Youth Summit on Policing in New York City
DESCRIPTION:On February 26\, 2019\, the Civilian Complaint Review Board (CCRB) in conjunction with NYU McSilver Institute for Poverty Policy & Research and the NYU Law Center on Race\, Inequality & the Law\, is hosting their first-ever youth summit at New York University Kimmel Center\, Rosenthal Pavilion\, 60 Washington Square South\, New York\, NY 10012. \nThis gathering is an opportunity for young people ages 10-24 from across New York City to directly share their experiences with policing\, identify problems in their communities\, and recommend solutions to public safety and police oversight practitioners and academics. \nAdditionally\, the summit will showcase the work of young artists inspired by their experiences with policing. The insights shared by participants from this event will inform CCRB’s 2019 report on youth\, which will be released later that year. \nThis event is free and open to the public. Breakfast and lunch will be provided. \nYoung people ages 10-24 may register now to attend. \nAdults\, youth program professionals\, and community leaders interested in chaperoning a group of participants should contact us at youthsummit@ccrb.nyc.gov to register your group. \nPlease check the website below for updates on the event date and the day’s schedule.
