SUMMARY:The Hope & Healing Town Hall: How Bronx Schools Can Address Childhood Trauma
DESCRIPTION:Hey Bronx students and parents! Learn about childhood trauma\, its impact on learning\, what schools can do to help\, and YOUR rights.\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease join New York State Assembly Member Latoya Joyner and Bronx Legal Services at The Bronx Museum of the Arts on Wednesday\, August 7th at 11AM for lunch and an important conversation about bringing healing approaches to our public schools. \nTrauma and adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) affect countless children in our communities. Even after the initial impact\, ACEs can impact our children’s day-to-day experiences\, interfere with their education\, and affect them for the rest of their lives. Our schools are uniquely situated to address ACEs\, but most schools lack trauma-informed approaches for working with children who have experienced ACEs. Our schools are missing an opportunity to provide a learning environment that promotes healing and long-term success. Hear from psychologists\, principals\, parents\, and students about trauma-informed approaches that work and come prepared to share your questions and ideas. \nHosted by Assembly Member Latoya Joyner and Bronx Legal Services \, in collaboration with New Settlement Apartments’ Parent Action Committee\, VNSNY FRIENDS\, New York Psychotherapy and Counseling Center\, & the Bronx Borough-Based Council of the Coordinated Children’s Services Initiative (CCSI). \nLunch will be served. Legal advocates will be available to discuss education and immigration rights. \nPDF Bronx Town Hall Flyer

SUMMARY:CANCELED - Manhattan Borough Based Council
DESCRIPTION:In light of the Mayor’s announcement that all NYC DOE Public schools are closed through April 20th\, at least\, CCSI has to cancel this in-person MBBC meeting and what would have been our April 16th in-person meeting. We are aware of how schools closing impacts all families considering additional work and homeschool scheduling adjustments in the midst of social distancing mandates from the city in light of COVID-19. Please take care of yourselves! \nAs CCSI\, we are following the guidance of the Department of Health & Mental Hygiene (DOHMH) broadly. Here’s a Coronavirus fact sheet! And a Stop The Spread flyer.  In general\, if you are part of a vulnerable population\, you should be trying to create ‘social distance’ by greatly reducing how much time you have to be around large groups of people. \nWe will be in touch further this week and in the coming weeks to let you know what events and meetings have been cancelled and what creative alternatives to in-person BBC meetings will be available. Thank you so much for being a part of this community. We will find ways to stay connected! \n  \nManhattan Borough Based Council Co-Chairs\nKarmita Morgan-Randall\nFamily Co-Chair\, Family Advocacy Consultant \nDenise Martin \nFamily/Agency Co-Chair\, Parent & OCFS Family Advocate \nNitaka Corprew \nAgency Co-Chair\, Juvenile Offender Specialist\, OCFS
