SUMMARY:CCSI Understanding & Unpacking Trauma Training Series
DESCRIPTION:The Coordinated Children’s Services Initiative of NYC\, in collaboration with Brooklyn’s own ReForum Consulting presents:\n  \nUnderstanding & Unpacking Trauma Training Series\n3 2-hour virtual sessions from 5-7 pm on TUESDAYS June 9th\, 16th\, & 23rd 2020\nREGISTER ON ZOOM\n\n  \nSession 1 – June 9th from 5-7 PM Pandemic Trauma\nA discussion surrounding the mental health consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic and tools for coping. As we consider how COVID-19 may impact our society\, we must consider both the medical and societal mental health consequences\, including collective trauma. Having a set plan for responding to mental health needs\, is just as important as a plan for protecting ones medical and physical health. \nSession 2 – June 16th from 5-7 PM Coping with COVID-19: An Ode to Self-Care\nThe COVID-19 pandemic can feel overwhelming due to uncertainty\, new information\, navigating working from home\, and caring for your family and yourself. It is normal to feel fearful\, anxious\, stressed or overwhelmed during uncertain times. Not all of us will respond to the stress of this pandemic in the same way. But what we ALL need to do is practice a lot of self-care. Whether you are taking advantage of this time to just be still or crossing items off of your to-do-list\, we all are learning new ways of being. Taking care of yourself is important so you are equipped to help your family through this time. In this workshop we discuss the entire spectrum of self-care and various practical ways for us to take care of ourselves considering our current circumstances. \nSession 3 – June 23rd from 5-7 PM Urban Grief & Loss\nIncreased stress and anxiety are common responses to the coronavirus outbreak. These responses can be more acute for communities predisposed to trauma\, because often they are already contending with other mental health stressors. It is important to continue ongoing efforts to understand why black persons are disproportionately impacted by COVID-19\, including the role of social and economic factors in infection risk. In this workshop we discuss the traumatic loss and grief in urban communities\, the disproportionate impact of this disease on racial and ethnic minority communities\, social factors that put these communities in a disadvantaged place to respond to an epidemic and to recover from diseases\, and resiliency factors. \n \nDownload & SHARE our event flyer!
